The signup funnel — where signups come from and how far they get

For Stayant admins — read the weekly signup funnel on the admin dashboard, filter it by marketing source, and tag links so signups are attributed.

The signup funnel

This article is for Stayant admins. The Signup funnel card on the admin dashboard (/admin) shows each week's new accounts and how many of them have reached each step towards becoming a paying customer. Use it for the weekly review: signups by source, where people drop off, and trial to paid.

Customers never see the funnel, and nothing about it changes their app.

Reading the table

Each row is a signup week, Monday to Sunday in UTC, newest first. The top row, All 12 weeks, adds the whole window together.

  • Registered is the number of accounts created that week.
  • Every other column counts how many of that week's accounts have reached the step at any time since, with the share of the week's signups underneath. A week's numbers keep growing as its accounts get set up, so older weeks are more complete than this week.

The columns, in order:

Column Counted when
Email verified An owner clicked the link in the verification email.
Property added The account has a property.
Rate set A room has a nightly rate, or the pricing grid has a weekday or weekend price.
Payments connected Stripe can take guest payments, or PayPal is verified.
Website published The booking website is published.
Channel connected A property is linked to the channel manager, or an iCal calendar is being imported.
First booking The account has a confirmed booking.
Paid The account made its first subscription payment.

The step columns use exactly the same rules as the Get ready for your first booking checklist that owners see on their dashboard. Each step is counted the first time it happens and stays counted, even if the owner later undoes it, for example by cancelling their only booking.

The steps are picked up by a background task that runs every 15 minutes (Activation Event Sweep on the Scheduled Tasks page), so a step an owner has just completed can take up to 15 minutes to appear.

To see how many accounts were activated — a first booking or a connected channel — read the First booking and Channel connected columns.

Filtering by source

The Source menu lists every utm_source seen on signups in the window. Choose one to see only the signups from that source. (direct) is signups that arrived with no source at all. All sources shows everyone again.

Getting signups attributed

A signup is attributed to the first marketing link the visitor arrived on in that browser session:

  • Add the usual UTM tags to any link to the marketing site, for example https://stayant.co.uk/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=launch. The site remembers them while the visitor browses and adds them to every link to the app's sign-up page.
  • Links that go straight to https://app.stayant.co.uk/signup can carry the same tags.
  • When there are no tags, the site still records the external website the visitor came from, such as a search engine, as the signup's referrer.

Only utm_source drives the filter. The medium, campaign, term, content and referrer are stored on the account for later analysis.
