How the "from" price is worked out
Your public site advertises a teaser price on property cards, room cards and the Rooms block: "from £X / night". This is what that figure means and where it comes from.
With no dates chosen
When a visitor lands on your site without searching for dates — the home page, the property listing, a property's own page — Stayant shows the cheapest night it can price in the next six months, counting from today.
It works this out the same way the booking engine does, so the teaser and the real quote agree:
- every active rate plan on the room is priced independently, and
- for each plan, each night resolves through the normal precedence — an explicit daily rate in the grid, then an active seasonal rule, then the plan's weekday/weekend default, then the plan's percentage or fixed adjustment.
The lowest positive night across all of a room's plans and all of those dates wins. A property card shows the cheapest of its rooms' figures.
Nights with no price are skipped
If you haven't priced part of the next six months, those nights are simply ignored — they never drag the advertised figure down, and an unpriced calendar never shows as £0.
Two consequences worth knowing:
- A single cheap night sets the headline. One £45 daily rate in February makes the whole site say "from £45 / night" until that date passes. If that isn't what you want, raise that night or move it outside the six-month window.
- A room with nothing priced at all falls back to its Default Nightly Rate. If that is also blank or zero, the room shows no price line at all rather than "from £0.00". Setting a default nightly rate on every room is the quickest way to make sure a price always appears.
With dates chosen
Once a visitor searches for a check-in and check-out date, the teaser is replaced by the real total for that stay — "£540 · 3 nights" — priced across their exact range. That is the figure they'd actually pay, so it is preferred over the per-night teaser wherever there's room to show it.
A stay total is only shown when one of the room's rate plans has a price for every night of the stay — the same rule booking uses. If any night in the range has no price, the room isn't quoted a total (it couldn't be booked for those dates) and the card keeps its per-night "from" line instead. The Default Nightly Rate fallback above applies to the dateless teaser only.
The stay total includes any length-of-stay discount the room qualifies for (for example "7+ nights, 10% off"), worked out exactly as the booking price panel works it out — so the figure on the room card is the same one the guest sees after choosing the room. A single free night inside an otherwise paid stay is fine: the room is still shown, priced at the paid nights.
Keeping the figure sensible
- Price at least the next six months on the Pricing page so the teaser reflects your real rates rather than a fallback.
- Watch for stray cheap daily rates — they are the usual reason a "from" price looks lower than expected.
- A deliberately discounted plan that resolves to £0 (a comp or staff plan, say) is never advertised — only positive nights count.
